Archive for August, 2010

Friends and Family,

It’s been a long time since I updated these pages. I apologize.

Here’s the updates:

Josi was able to get a follow-up exam through an organization that provides funding for un- or under-insured women to have breast examinations and for all following procedures—no matter the outcome. However, her results were negative—the earlier diagnosis was “overly aggressive” without looking at previous results. In otherwords, Josi’s fine.

Richard was diagnosed in May with diabetes. His blood sugar was way out of line and is now on medication. Other than that, he’s doing fine. His blood sugar is under control and he’s reduced his intake of Dr. Pepper by about 95% to about three or four sodas a week. He’s also trimmed about 3o pounds.

Back in November we were informed that the house we were renting would be sold in 2010. In June we were given notice to move out by the end of July so the owners could sell the house. We had previously discussed buying the house, but had not been able to raise the down payment. Within a week of receiving the eviction notice, God had led someone to loan us the down payment amount. WooHoo! We closed on the house and signed all the papers August 3 and are now living in our own house. Don’t worry, our address is still the same! Now we get to truly make it our own.

In July we travelled to the North American Christian Convention in Indianapolis. On our way we stopped in Columbia, Missouri, to attend church with some friends. After the convention we travelled and shared our ministry with friends in Indiana and Ohio. We also got to spend time with some of Richard’s family that he has not seen in many years. It was good to reconnect to all of these friends and family members!

The new office building for Pioneer Bible Translators is well under way. The trusses should be arriving anytime now. Richard is preparing to head up the installation of the network wiring—over three miles of cable!

That’s all I have time for right now. I’ll do a little more later.

To our family and partners,

Overdue greetings!

The Pioneer Bible Translators Banquet in Phoenix was a success. Due to financial considerations, Richard was not able to accompany Josi to Phoenix. Josi was very blessed by many of the people attending and we hope that the Banquet was a blessing to all those same people.

Josi returned home from the banquet this past week with a serious sinus infection. She has lost her voice and is having serious coughing spells. She’s taking mega-doses of antibiotics from the doctor and some cough medication, but it is still causing her a lot of difficulties. Please pray for her quick recovery.

Today she received notification that she needs to have further tests due to an abnormal reading from a mammogram. Without insurance this will be very expensive and we just don’t have the money to afford it at this time. Please pray for God’s intervention in this situation.

Our general support is just above 50% of our monthly budget. Pray for God to lead us to more churches or individuals to partner with us in our ministry. We still want to buy the house we are renting, but we’ve not been able to put much aside toward the down payment.

Many of our friends and family have particular prayer needs. Among them are Ken Jones, Mama Shirley, and Walter Hilton. Please lift each of them up by name along with prayers for Arizona Reservation Ministries and First Nations Ministries. Pray also for the continued work on translations for the Bible-less.

Pioneer Bible Translators has monthly prayer tools that are available. If you would like to receive these, please let us know.
